Christian Alternatives to Halloween

We’re approaching Halloween; how do you feel about that?  This holiday has been controversial for Christians for quite some time now.  Halloween, if you do your homework, has its roots in both Christianity and the ancient festival of Samhain.  Nonetheless, most do view it as not having any Christian roots; what do you think? Share your thoughts and plans with us.

  • Share a picture of your carved pumpkin.
  • What are some Christian alternatives to Halloween?
  • Show us a picture of you carving a pumpkin.
  • Show us your Halloween decorations.
  • What treats do you make for Halloween?
  • What does your church do for Halloween?
  • Share your trunk or treat ideas.

Now is a great time for you to show your world what Christians do! Let’s do it together, BeTheSohrs!

Don’t Compromise Your Standards

Civilizations evolve and cultures shift. There’s no way around that, but what happens when it shifts so much that it pushes you to compromise your standards? What will you do when culture pushes back against you? It will and has always.

This week’s #BeTheSohrs focus is “In a shifting culture, how can we make sure we don’t compromise our standards?” The thing we like about Christians is that we will stand. It’s time, your time to do what we, Christians, do best. Let’s stand for our standards! #BeTheSohrs.

Characteristics of Jesus

This week’s BeTheSohrs topic is for everyone; every Christian can participate.  There’s no way you can be a Christian and not be able to participate in this one.  This week’s BeTheSohrs topic is “Characteristics of Jesus”. What characteristic(s) of Jesus do you love the most?
Here are a few actions and questions to get you started:

  • What is your favorite characteristic of Jesus?
  • Name your favorite attribute of Jesus.
  • What characteristic of Jesus do you relate to the least?
  • Describe your favorite attribute of Jesus.
  • What trait best describes Jesus?
  • What facet brings you closer to Jesus?

It’s your time to share with the world what we, Christians, do!   #BeTheSohrs

How Do You Share Jesus With Others?

I once hated being on the receiving end of this question.  I’d be embarrassed because I knew deep down inside it’s what I should be doing, but I wasn’t.  I didn’t feel qualified, adequate, or confident enough. In this week’s BeTheSohrs topic, we ask the question, “How do you share Jesus with others?”  On the flip side of this question, there are those who do it without any reservations. They have a burning passion to share what’s been shared with them.  We want to hear from both sides. Share your thoughts and experiences with us.

Here are a few ideas to help you in sharing:

  • Share a past random act of kindness.
  • How do you share Jesus with your peers?
  • In what ways do you share Jesus with others?
  • How do you tell others about Jesus?
  • How do you witness to others?
  • Share your passion for Jesus.
  • Describe a time you shared Jesus with someone.

It’s time to share; let’s do it together.  We are impacting the world by showing others what we, Christians, do.  #BeTheSohrs

Take a picture with your small group.

Small groups are just about in full swing in most churches as we head into the fall season.  As small groups get through their meet and greet session, it’s a good time to share that experience with others.

For some, that getting-to-know-you phase of small groups might be tough, but if we do what we do best and share our experience with the world around us, we can make it that much easier for someone else.

This week’s “#BeTheSohrs” focus is share a picture of you and your small group.  It’s time; your time to do what only we, Christians, do best.  We gather together with others!  #SmallGroups

What helps you get through trying times?

In the church community, we find ourselves using the term “storm” to describe troubling or trying times.   Many have heard it said that you’re either: 1) preparing for a storm, 2) in a the midst of a storm or 3) just on the other side of a storm.  At any rate, storms are a part of life that we must all deal with. The question is “how”? This week’s BeTheSohrs focus is “what helps you get through trying times?”  What’s your secret to calming a storm? It’s time, our time, to do what we Christians do best…share your experiences of coping with the storms of life. #BeTheSohrs

Inspiring Bible Character

The Bible is filled with so many characters. Many times we usually think of the major stories that we grew up hearing, but what about the other characters? Those not so well known characters that people who are new to the Bible don’t know.

Today’s BeTheSohrs focus is on Bible characters who inspire you. Tell us about a Bible character that gives you inspiration. It’s time, your time, to do what we, Christians, do best. #BeTheSohrs.

Let’s show the world the character from scripture that inspires us.

What ways do you show love to the ones around you?

At the very core of being a Christian, exists the power of love. There is one thing that all Christians can agree upon and that’s the importance of this 4 letter word, l-o-v-e. We’ve found and you’ve experienced this word in many different ways. The world needs to know what it looks like. This week’s BeTheSohrs topic is “What ways do you show love to the ones around you?”

Here are a few actions and questions to get your thoughts stirring as your share:
* How often do you show love to those around you?
* In what ways do you give to your community?
* How has showing love to others affected you?
* In what ways do you show love to those that are around you?
* Give us a love expression.
* Love selfie. Yes, like being on the “kiss” cam at a baseball game.
* What is your love language? And why?

We can’t wait to hear (and see) what you have to share.
It’s time, your time, to do what we, Christians, do best. #BeTheSohrs

How Would You Describe Today’s Message?

Most Christians attend some type of worship service either Saturday or Sunday.  During these services a message is delivered. Some churches call it a sermon, others call it teachings or talks and there are those who reference it as a message. No matter what it’s called they give instruction, inspiration, comfort and hope.  Hopefully, this weekend you are amongst the millions who attend a worship service and will hear a great message. Our “BeTheSohrs” topic this week is “How would you describe today’s message?” Here are a few questions along those lines to help you share in this week’s “#BeTheSohrs” campaign:

  • What’s one word to describe the message you heard today?
  • What is today’s message theme?
  • What’s the one thing you loved about the message?
  • Share your message notes with us.
  • Tell us a little about the message.

No matter what you do, say or share, just do it.  It will literally inspire the world, your world.

It’s your time, our time to do what we, Christians, do best.  #BeTheSohrs!

Compliment a Stranger Today

The reason I like being around Christians is because I leave feeling refreshed.  They put wind in my sails.  Have you ever had anyone say something to you that lifted your spirits and sent you soaring?

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” – ‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This week, we are doing this very thing for others.  Can you find a stranger or someone you just met and find a way to encourage them.  Our “BeTheSohrs” focus is “compliment a stranger today!”  Being that breath of fresh air for others is what we, Christians, do and we do it well.  It’s time your time to BeTheSohrs!
